Take a guess! 400sbc

I know the proper way to get horsepower numbers are at a dyno but I was wondering if there is anyone on here that had close to the combo I have and what their numbers were.

here's the motor,

400 sbc 2bolt main, stock rotating assembly, rebuilt
cam has .510 lift on exhaust, i don't know the exact specs, i bought it used and it's a old blue racer camshaft.
2.02 heads with 1.6 exhaust, home ported and polished
Torker 2 intake (has to go i know)
holley 750 DP with new proform baseplate
stock rocker arms
msd 6al box and blaster 2 coil

headman hedders with their y-pipe, no cats.

TH350 tranny with shift kit.

Anyone wanna make a guestimate?

My "air dyno" says around 375 hp around 6000 rpm. The intake manifold is restrictive. Swap to an Edelbrock RPM AirGap and find another 20 horses easy.

Mine was kinda simular I guess. I agree...air gap type intake. I still have my old "Crosswind" intake that I can't use with this blower that I'll be selling...I dynoed (engine) at 390 HP and 490 TQ. Def. no sloutch.

Need more details on these parts in order to come close with a guesstimate.

True, but I've flowbench tested enough different ported 2.02 fuelie heads to have a good idea of where they're at, and looking at COMP's old magnum HF cams, which really are comparable, Puts this cam at around 246-250 duration at .050", big enough to be peaking around 6000 rpm in a 400 with such heads.

Re: Take a guess! 400sbc

hey guys,

thanks for taking the time to find me some numbers, I hope this motor really comes together and hauls.

I have no specs for the cam at all, the heads had 194 valves but were machines to accept 2.02 intake valves, screw in studs, stainless valves. Planed and magged.

Should be a intresting summer.

Hmmm, a bit of a leap to assume they're fuelie heads.

882's could have 2.02"/1.60" valves. They would be quite different than fuelie or even L98 heads for power output.

Re: Take a guess! 400sbc

I might actually get to a dyno this year, car is coming along great, since this post I just changed the valvetrain to 1.6 roller rockers with higher lift capable springs. She'll breathe better with her hedman shortys and y-pipe.

I think for awhile I'll call the motor finished until the block gives out and then I'll build a lsx motor.

If I am over the 400 to the wheels i'd be happy, perhaps I'll even make a first time run at my local track to see what slip I can get.

Re: Take a guess! 400sbc

400rwhp is ALOT... you're not going to do that with any production GM head. Period. You're looking at AFR or Trickflow 195s at the mnimum to get a number like that.

Do you have the casting numbers off the heads at least? As Five7 said, there is a BIG difference between potential output from various GM heads.. you need to find out which ones you have.

Re: Take a guess! 400sbc

i'll get those casting numbers the weekend. I'm not one of those people obsessed with the numbers, if the car has plenty of power and is fun to drive, I've accomplished my mission.
