How do you pull your engine?
Do you pull it with the tranny attached... OR do you pull just the block then drop the tranny?
It seems like an easy job to just pull the tranny still attached to the motor if you have a leveling attachment for your hoist. Then again, pulling the motor straight up and out is, well... pretty straight up and out foreword.

Re: How do you pull your engine?
Yeah that does seem like the logical decision considering that the trans is getting replaced. No point in fidgeting with the bell-housing bolts just to remove it separately.
Did you use a leveling thing, or just a chain?

Re: How do you pull your engine?
Well, I ended up just leaving the tranny in for now, and out the top
The bolts on the bell housing were surprisingly easy to get to, even the top ones.
What I didn't expect though... I had to take the whole front end off almost to get the hoist to reach the engine.
But its out now, with little to no casualties.

Re: How do you pull your engine?
I found it easier to just unbolt the tranny from the motor and then get the motor out. When putting it back in, i move the tranny back a few inches, drop motor in and then move tranny forward.

Did it always line up?
I think I'm going to put the motor in with the tranny attached. I'd rather fidget with it fitting from the top, and not from under the car with no leverage.

Re: How do you pull your engine?
I just pulled my 327 out the other day, ended up pulling the engine out the top with the hood removed and just dropped the trans out the bottom. Took all of 4 hours and only 6 beers.

Re: How do you pull your engine?
Haha yeah, picked it up 2 or 3 weeks ago. Did you look at it? But, yeah he listed it as "the rods are knocking slightly" I get there it sounded like someone left a spoon in the oil pan, a fork in the valve cover, and a knife in a chamber. Not to mention on the drive home the wheel nearly fell off.

Will do, I'll probably need a bunch of help hooking the top end back up. So many wires that I'm sure Ill have no clue where to connect.

Re: How do you pull your engine?
I alwys pull them without the trans. Just make sure you have enough room to get the trans out from under the car if you need to. I have a transmission jack so it's real easy to move it around and support it while pulling the motor.
It ws a bit of a pain dropping the motor in with the bellhousing/clutch attached, so doing it with a whole trans attached would irritate the crap out of me Im sure.

Re: How do you pull your engine?
Just pulled the 305 out on sunday engine and trans all together took 3.5 hours, all in all it was very easy just pulled the hood off and the trans crossmember and I used a liftplate where the carb goes, worked very well.
Re: How do you pull your engine?
Unplug the ECM, and C100, disconnect the trans lines, disconnect the coolant lines, remove the radiator hoses, unbolt upper strut nuts, disconnect the front brake lines, remove Y-pipe, unbolt crossmember and K-member
Lift the body off the whole front suspension. Took me about an hour. No reason it should take more than two

Going back in was simple too, just reverse order. Use the front wheels to roll the assembly around. I had access to a lift, but a cherry picker can be used in the same fashion

Re: How do you pull your engine?
Did you just leave the top end mostly connected and pull the harness with it?
