Whats needed to replace the 2.8v6 with a 4.3v6 in a 1986 Firebird
Hi, I have a 1986 Firebird with a locked up2.8L in it and am wondering what would be needed to swap it over to a 4.3L. I can find the 4.3's all day cheap, but cant find a 2.8? Any Ideas? Also I havethe automatic ?700r4? in it, now and the trans that comes with the 4.3 is a 4L60E. The motor and trans is out of an s10. Thanks a bunch

The 4.3 seems to come up every other month. Do some searching. Long story short, it's possible. If it's the earlier 60E, you can swap your tailshaft housing for the torque arm. If it's a later 60E, you'll need he tailhousing from a later fourth gen F-car. Then the 60E goes excactly in place of your old 700R-4, then attach your 4.3 to it. Your S-1- accessory brackets won't chear your hood, you'll need the brackets from an '88-'92 F-car, and you'll need those on the engine before trying to figure out mounting. Once mounted, then you have to figure out the front half of an exhaust system, including whether you can use the S-10 exhaust manifolds.
Even then you're not done. There's more wiring, figuring out radiator hoses, heater hoses, P/S hoses, and maybe the A/C. And getting the fuel system connected.
