305 vs. 327
I recently found a very good deal on a rebuilt late 60's 327. I currently have a 305 in my 89 IROC... recently converted to carb. My question is, how interchangeable are the parts from a late 60s 327 and a 1989 305, and how difficult would a swap to the 327 be? Thank you very much for you help.

Interchangeable? Depends on exactly what you want to change. Quite a few parts will swap right over.
The early heads probably don't have accessory bolt holes so power steering, alt, AC will need proper mounting brackets that don't attach to the heads.
As for switching it over, externally, the SBC engines are identical in size. Although the 327 will be better than the 305, you'll be better off dropping in a 350. A deal isn't much of a deal if you have to change a lot of things to make it work.

Re: 305 vs. 327
THanks a lot, that is the kind of advice I was looking for. As far as what I would need to change, I'd want to take as much as possible off the 305 (AC, alt, etc) as well as my exhaust headers, and put it on the 327. I see what you are saying though about how its not that great of a deal to have to put all that extra work into changing everything. I would be better off with a newer 350 than the older 327

If the 327 heads don't have the accessory bolt holes on the ends, and if they are factory 327 heads they won't, then transferring your alternator etc. will become an exercise in frustration.
Not much else would be a big deal, though.
