Gauge Cluster 87 LG4 - 91 L03

Hi !

Swapping from ´87 LG4 to ´91 L03. Wondering if the gauge cluster (no digitial) is the same ? Is it possible to use the old gauge cluster or do I have to get a ´91 cluster ?

Why not use the LG4 cluster? It has an electric speedo and the dash harness you have is for the '87 cluster which will keep the pinouts correct.

Plus it depends on what you are swapping in also.

Re: Gauge Cluster 87 LG4 - 91 L03

Ehm ???

Ok - the story :

As I wrote I am swapping from 1987 V8 LG4 w/automatic tranny into 1991 V8 L03 TBI w/ automatic tranny. I have replaced the 87 wiring harness by an 91 wiring harness inside (and outside, too) the car because there were lot of differents between 87 and 91 (as an example : 87 LG4 has no electric fuel pump and no injector fuses).
So I replaced the 87 by the 91 harness matching to the known 91 L03-TBI-V8.

I believe the 91 service manual shows an additional pin which was free in 87 gauge cluster/ harness !

So finally my question is : is the further use of the 87 cluster possible or does someone have (had) bad experiences with such a configuration ?

I would swap it out with the '91 cluster since some of the lights were different i.e. security light instead of a choke light, etc etc and is possible that the clusters may be pinned different as well.

Re: Gauge Cluster 87 LG4 - 91 L03

Hmmm....I do not have the 91 cluster.

In the both service manuals (1987 + 1991) I could find out that the only difference would be the input signal from the vertical speed sensor. 1987 has not the vss signal at pin 14 (1987 pin 14 is free - but 1987 have had the ELECTRONIC speedometer !!!) but 1991 cluster has the vss signal at pin 14.

That is a little bit ....
