V6 to V8 swap expensive and difficult?
V6 to V8 swap expensive and difficult?
ok so i am building a 3rd gen camaro with a 383 v8, i found a good deal on a 2.8L v6 camaro, now i already planned on doing an engine swap with the 383 but i am unsure of how much more expensive and difficult it would be to change from v6 to v8 than a v8 to a v8. i read the sticky article and it told me i would have to change the whole exauhst. but i was planning on upgrading that anyways. also im planning on gettin a performance rebuilt 700r4 tranny. i probably am going to get a donor v8 car like it said. but any input on the diffculty and price of this would be nice thanks.

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
The sticky should give you some idea of the work involved. I'd say the most difficult items are:
- Changing the V6 engine mounts on the crossmember to V8 mounts (the nuts inside the crossmember are a bugger to get to)
- Changing the V6 front springs to V8 (I know many people say they run V6 springs with their V8 just fine, but mine constantly bottomed the suspension until I changed to V8 springs - and the V6 springs had recently been changed by the previous owner) - if you drop the A-arms to change the springs, the engine mount nuts are a breeze to get to
- Fuel system (if the V6 is EFI, plan on dropping the tank and either replacing the in-tank electric pump, or modifying the pick-up for an external or engine mounted pump - see the Carburetor forum for a sticky on modifying the pick-up)
- Wiring
