Vats going backwards.

We swapped the 2.8 into place of the 3.1 and now I'm just wondering what has to be changed so that the Camaro can run. The 2.8 is from a 1989 rs and the 3.1 is from a 92. I still have both cars and computers. Will the VATS bypass be the easiest way to go or do I still need to change out something?
