Interesting note about RHS Vs. Dart Head

As I continued my research on what 383 parts to buy, I found that the Dart Pro 1 200 head is recommended for my 383, but if I were to go with an RHS Pro Action head, RHS recommends their 220 head for the 383. I thought this was interesting and also a little mind boggling. I guess the two heads flow DIFFERENTLY, therefore, necessitating a bigger intake port on the RHS head, to satisfy the 383's breathing requirements?? Seems kinda weird, to me, and both are aluminum heads.

Re: Interesting note about RHS Vs. Dart Head

no, that's not the issue. If you're going to do a 383, first decide between long-runner TPI versus either a short runner efi or carb. If you're going long-runner, that limits the rpm range, and a 180cc head might do, a 195-200 cc head would be more than enough. But between a 200 or a 220, that depends mostly on your rpm range. If you want 6500+ rpm frequently, a 215+ cc head from either of them would be the choice. Pick your induction, rpm range and cubic inches, then buy the best heads you can afford, then choose cam and gears.

Head flow data, Not all heads are the same and it's not just about flow numbers.

Re: Interesting note about RHS Vs. Dart Head

Ok, thanks guys. I'm definitely going with a mini ram intake, so it seems I'll need the 220 from RHS, from what they said. To add to what Atilla The Fun said above, TPIS told me I would only need the 200 in the Dart head, and that would make 530 hp on my particular setup, with the mini ram, with an rpm range going up to 7200. Why would RHS say I need their 220, and then TPIS says I only need the 200 in the Dart head? This is the issue that is confusing. I mean...TPIS knows fuel injection stuff very well, and I believed them when they told me the Dart 200 is a good choice. It's just weird that I would need to go up to 220 in the RHS head, according to RHS, with everything else the same on my setup. I'm confused. I guess I could go with the RHS 220 and get the engine tuned and just see what happens.

Re: Interesting note about RHS Vs. Dart Head

I'll go with the RHS 200 because it's better to go smaller than too big, when it comes to intake runner volume. I don't want to have to rev my engine up to 8000 rpms, to get my power where I want it.

Did you ever get these, and if so how do you like them? I'm looking at the RHS 200's, but there's not a lot of people running them, so not much info out there.

Re: Interesting note about RHS Vs. Dart Head

I am far away from building an engine big enough to utilize these heads, so I have not got them yet.
