I am putting an LS1 into my 91 z28 and I am trying to figure out which transmission I should use. I am going to be doing some weekend drag racing and have plans to modify the LS1 so it has around 450 horses and 500 torque. I have heard about a lot of problems with the t-56 and am wondering if an auto tranny would be better and if so which one? The 4L60E I can get real cheap. So what you guys think?

 

I'm not sure what problems you've heard about the T56, but they are very strong transmissions. The 4L60E is also strong and much cheaper then a T56. Personally I hate Automatics so I would never consider the 4L60E, but if you don't mind imho that is the cheaper way to go. Also, if you are putting a LS1 in you should get acquinted with the LSx swap board for reading/posting. It's in this same section and is the proper place to post questions related to an LSx/LT1 swap.

 

T-56 hands down . IMHO autos are for people who never had a real chance to play with gears , or are to lazy to learn . good luck from an old A.F. Msgt. acft. mech. , say hello to KARL R. for me , i knew him . nuff said , good luck .
