Double hump heads v. vortech heads
I didnt exactly know where to post this at, but i am at a delima. my buddy will sell me a set of double hump heads, ported and polished, 2.02/1.60 with studs, and roller rockers for $450. i know these heads are good quality. my problem is, i can get a set of vortech heads for 100 bucks(i am a mechanic)and then by an RPM vortech intake for 180, and have alot less in the heads. my problem is i dont know which will make more power. $450 v. $280 plus tax, is enough to make me think about getting vortech. i was going to use a 274xtreme cam because i have flat top pistons(about 10:1 comp)and the 2.02/1.60 valves, i figure they would flow to 6000rpm with no problem. if i go with vortech heads, i might go with a 268xtreme cam cause its a little smaller, i will have the same compression, but smaller valves. I have seen hot rod, car craft, chevy high performance get 400 hp out of these heads with minor port work, a 268xtreme cam and less compression than i am going to have. sorry this was so long, thanks for any responses.

lets start off by calling them vortec heads as they are not a vortech supercharger, pet peave. You will probably want to use the vortecs as they flow better than camel hump heads and also have accesory holes for stuff like power steering. One thing you might want to know is that you cant use exhaust manifolds on these heads, headers are required. I run the 226/230 Xtreme energy grind on a stock converter and I'd say its drivable and has plenty of tire shredding torque right off idle. These are the best cast iron SBC heads ever to come equipped from the factory (thats straight from Car Craft.).
