350 buildup. Stay CC carb or go TPI?
Ok. what I've got right now is a dying L69 engine on my 84 Z28. I have a 4 bolt 350 block just waiting to be built.
How hard is a TPI swap if you get the harness & ECM with it? I can get an 87 TPI setup for about $350. Includes 19lb injectors, plenum, runners, harness, ecm, etc
I'm just trying to find out how much time this would take. The car is my daily driver although not absolutely necessary for getting me to work. (read, wife has a car, hehe)
Thanx,
Randy

There's a FAQ the subject, but it's not complete. I have the same TPI setup in my garage, and have been researching the switch.
In addition to what you say you have (although I don't know what "etc" you have), you need to get the fuel pressure up. The factory does this with an in-tank pump, which has relays and wiring that our cars don't have. The intake cleaner to throttle body tubing has the MAF in it, make sure you have that, too. Throttle, cruise & TV cables also change. You should also port the plenum to fix what the factory should never have left the way they did.
Factory 350 TPI's came with 22lb injectors. Although we're at a higher altitude, I know a guy here who has a highly modified ZZ3-based TPI which runs better w/19 lb injectors than it does with 24's, the 19's just require higher pressure regulation.
Having been through all the harness swapping and such when I put in the V-8, I'm leaning towards just keeping the carb when I upgrade the engine. I have to meet emissions, though, which influences my thought process. I'm also missing key ingredients such as injectors, fuel rails and regulator (as well as afore-mentioned fuel pump), so that is also a factor I'm considering.
I would expect the switch to take a couple of weekends of work and the evenings inbetween to get it right. Those who have actually been through the process might be better able to answer that part, though.
