SBC rebuild with SC in mind
SBC rebuild with SC in mind
I just ripped the 305 out of the '84 Z28. I am going to build an emmissions legal 350 (I state that like I know what I am doing.) Anyway I was going to use the Power Package from Edelbrock to get heads, cam, manifold, and carb. Here's the questions: 1) Rod length and stroke will be stock but I need some info on pistons. What compression ratio should I try and get? I'm worried about clearance with the heads and building something reliable when supercharged. 2) What other changes do I need to make when building for a supercharger? gaskets, forged parts, etc.
Oh yeah. I wanted to go with 1.6 ratio rockers.
I already got the trans and 5.0 out of the car so I am going to buy a block and rebuild kit pretty soon.
Thanks,
Glen Smith

I would ask Edelbrock about the compression ratio to build that will work with their package. Also get their thoughts on the supercharger. They have a pretty good tech support line. I would definitely go with forged pistons but you should be safe with a steel crank and rods.
On another note, quite often a supercharged engine will do better with a different cam than a normally aspirated engine, so I would decide up front if you are going supercharged, and if so how soon.
