Motor swap myths.......LB9 to L98; L98 vs LB9
I have been toying with the idea swapping in a SDPC L98 (12513151) engine in place of my LB9 engine. Also considering their L98 shortblock for $1100 and building one myself.
There are a few areas that are fuzzy for me as far as this swap goes.
1. Stock 19 lb. injectors. Safe to use, or will the engine run lean, and not rev? Should I purchase 22 lb. injectors instead?
2. 350 knock sensor. Simple enough, do I need to replace this?
3. ESC module. Do I have the name right? Does this need to be replaced as well?
4. 350 PROM. I have decided that I would use a factory L98 prom with either combination; mainly because of a small budget.
So what else am I looking at here?
I am trying to decide whether it would be more "cost effective" to build an L98, or do a mild rebuild on my LB9 using the Aluminum L98 heads and a nice roller cam.
The last option looks more pleasing, because I have no need for larger injectors, custom PROM, ESC, etc.
Just looking for options. Thanks

Jeff, I called SDPC today to check this partnumber cause I didn't think GM made a crate L98. According to the guy I talked to
this is the Caprice LO5 motor and not the L98. I also show this is the caprice motor.
You may want to think about this before bying this to replace your LB9. There are better options which have been discussed on this board. Just my thoughts......bob

I understand from guys that have done it that you can use your 19# injectors in a 350. You'll have to increase the pressure a bit, but they'll work fine until you get the
$$ for 22# units. You will need the new knock sensor for a 350. Depending on your budget, there is the "Goodwrench" 350 crate motor or the ZZ4 short block. With the kind of performance that CHP got out of the "Goodwrench" motor in their series I'm not sure the ZZ4 is necessary unless your going with a power adder. With power adders you would probably want to use a short block with forged pieces inside.
