the trans doesn't "hook up" to the engine, there's a bell houseing in between. the lt1 is just a SBC, so the bell for you t5 should bolt up to the lt1. long as the t5 and bell houseing was on a sbc.

Ok I wanna take this off the point of this post kinda for a sec... lets say he had the automatic tranny and wanted a manual. Would it be smarter or cheaper for him to get the Z28 T5 or the LT1 T56? Thanks!

------------------
1992 Camaro RS 3.1L
T5 Manual 5 speed
Open Air Intake
Z-28 Exhaust
8.5mm MSD Ignition wires
TB Coolant bypass

Kills:

95 (****) Probe GT
94 Mustang GT
91 CRX (dont ask me why he raced me)
2nd Gen Z28 (350) haha to you V8 guys!
1992 RS 305 TBI (good race)
More to come

well, it would definately be cheaper to get the T5, but, like I want to do, it would probably be smarter in the long run to get the T-56

The lt1 isn't just a SBC, it's a second generation small block chevy, there are some differences. I can't remember them but there are.

The t5 bellhousing will bolt to the lt1 block, but the clutch setup is totally different. The 4th gen uses a pull type, while the t5 is a push type. You can use the flywheel off a late model 1 piece rear main 350 or 305 and use the third gen type clutch. And in your case if you have a t5 car from 86 up then it will work, just bolt your flywheel and clutch to the lt1.
