350 to ZZ4...what do i need?

What do I need for a motor swap from a pretty much stock 350 to a ZZ4 crate motor. I have a 1991 Z28 with 127,000 miles on my 350. Do I have to get a new computer? What do i have to change or upgrade so that the ZZ4 will run at its advertised 350 hp. I already plan on upgrading the brakes to Baer's track system, and i know i have to also change out the rearend or the ZZ4 with tear it apart. But what else do i need in the engine compartment. All the input that can be provided will be much help. Thanks

The ZZ4 will bolt in in place of your 350. The only issue (I think) is the center two intake bolts on each side will be a different angle on the ZZ4 heads - elongate your intake bolt holes to fit if that's the case. The exhaust ports are raised D-ports, so watch your exhaust matching.

To get the most out of it, you'll have to get that plennum ported, and a larger throttle body would also improve flow. An adjustable fuel pressure regulator will allow you to tune for performance. An upgrade PROM would help get more out of it, but you wouldn't need a whole new ECM.

I don't know why you think your rearend is in danger. The factory doesn't do anything to upgrade it in the conversion kit except better lower control arms. If you're still worried about it, put on a stiffening cover and weld the tubes all the way around.

you will need a custom chip for sure... adj fuel pressure regulator... improved intake flow (the cam in the zz4 likes a lot of air) the heads won't work with the EGR sys... get a high stall converter (at least 2200 RPM)... that is a start for ya... I'm still working on mine... since you already have a 350 you may think about just collecting parts for that to do your build up... depends on what you want as an end result...

Well I'm pretty much on the EXACT same road as you are on right now with my IROC.. I have a 86 IROC-Z and I am putting a 350ZZ4 in it instead of the old 350 (which wasn't the original engine but same sort of ****). The intake is the thing that is going to give you the most problems.. My lower intake has been fully polished and ported, I have the complete lingenfelter intake setup with the lingenfelter super ram (that intake is abnout $2000CDN alone).. Mind you it isn't a stock ZZ4 so you mihgt not need somethign that dramatic... I have added to the ZZ4 crane gold series 1.6 ratio roller rockers, steel crank, forged pistons, moley pushrods, heads have been port matched, and a pair of edelbrock polished singature series valve covers (extra 200hp from the valve covers they are key here) : ) As for a stall I am running a 3000RPM stall in my 700R4.. the rearend isn't stock but it is **** its a 3.42 posi used noname brand got it for a cheap price type of deal... I am worried about it breaking too but I don't have the cash for anything better right now... I probably won't have it all done and ready to rock until April anyways.. But if mine is done before yours I will let you know what breaks.. Oh yeah one other thing if you have t-tops GET SUBFRAME CONNECTORS!! Thats one other thing I am doing with this new engine.. The subframe connectors are cheap (bout $200) and they are worth it in the long run to stop your car from breaking itself in half with its new found power..
