Please point me in the right direction
I want a SBC that hits the 600 hp and TQ mark. I dont want NOS, but turbos or SC's are fine. I was thinking crate engines would be nice, but they seem expensive for the numbers I want, but maybe Im jsut looking in the wrong places. Where can I find what im looking for in crate form for a reasonable price.
Also I know many people build motors liek this on their own, aside from teh training, how much does it cost to build a motor like this? And how any hours of work?

89 camaro 305 tbi, flomaster 3 chamber cat back, gutted cat, Edlebrock open element, 2 kicker comp 12"'s, polk for the rest. Phoenix gold xs2300 to subs, kicker impulse 404XI to 4 speakers, pioneer DEH- P7000R head unit, and finally a 12 disc changer. Full leather interior from MrMikes.com

#1: What are you going to do with this beast you plan on creating?
#2: How did you come up with the 600 HP number? Does it just sound good?
#3: Do you realize what all you have to do to harness this much power?
#4: If you think a crate engine is expensive, doing all you have to do to make, keep together, and utilize 600 HP will make you permanently cross-eyed.
#5: You aren't getting much for response because you seem to have stars in front of your eyes instead of a realistic goal.
#6: If you want to know how much this is all going to cost, get some catalogs like Jegs or Summit and some magazines, and start doing some research.

Its not just as simple as picking up a catalog and pricing parts. I went through the same thing when I started looking for parts. There are way too many for someone with little or no experience to just pickup a catalog and start naming parts they want. If you want you could call an engine shop that builds performance motors and ask them for their opinion on what you should go with.

Well.. all I can say is to build just the motor will run you at least $4,000 more than likey more than that. If you plan on driving this thing every day you would be much better off with nitrous than a blower or a turbo but if you are dead set against nitrous I would have to say to go with a turbo set up for a couple of reasons. First of all turbos are much easier on motors than blowers or nitrous and they make more power per cubic inch then either the blower or nitrous. The bad thing about turbo's is the cost of the set up and the maintenance involved. One thing that i think you are over looking is you can build this motor and put it into the car but then 2 things will happen you will kill the tranny (neither the T-5 or the 700R4 are worth a crap with this much power) and the rearend will go right with it because GM for some reason put the weakest rearend they ever made into these cars. If you are wanting to drag race this car you can put in a built TH400 or TH350 (which will run you anywhere between $500 and $1000) to handle the tranny part and you can get a bolt in 9", 12 bolt, Danna 44 or Danna 60 rearend (which will run you at least another $2500). Now another thing will be you have to strengthen the car ie: subframe connectors, rollbar, aftermarket controll arms and torque arm. So you see this whole thing will end up costing you a tun of money. I am not trying to scare you off from doing this but if you have never had something that even 300hp you have no idea what you are getting yourself into with a 600hp motor. Also you can not build a 600hp motor and drive it everyday and expect it to never have any problems, because if you are thinking that then you have alot to lern. Now if you still want to do this I can set you up with a couple of combanations that could put you over the 500hp mark and still be drivable or if you don't plan on driving it everyday I can help you out with a 600+hp combanation. Just E-mail me and we can talk about it... Novaguy76@aol.com
