Is this v6 to v8 swap worth it? serious opinons only.
Here is my scenario. I have a 1991 Formula 305 TPI/7004r. I took out the drivetrain and put in a 406 DFI motor and racing 700r4.
I also own a 1985 camaro with the MPFI v6 from hell. I was thinking about doing the swap and wanted to know what I really needed.
I have the complete motor and trans from the 91, the radiator, computer, starter, driveshaft, struts, springs, hoses, distributor... The only things I do not have is the serpentine system which I could get from a junkyard, engine wiring harness and exhaust system. Other than changing the motor mounts, is there any pitfalls to look out for?
Thanks for all help. Much apreciated.

Check the thread https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/000231.html topic "2.8 to 5.0/5.7". MILT put down a pretty good list of what's needed (with my additions, of course).
Now, this is my serious opinion: Since you have most of the parts and have demonstrated some wrenching ability on your '91, it might make more sense for you than for the typical guy with stars in his eyes.
So, here goes: Your V-6 tach won't work correctly with the V-8. Make sure you get all the sensors with the harness when you pull it from the yard, and get the harness all the way from the engine to the ECM. Change the motor mounts at the same time you change the front springs - dropping the a-arms gives you MUCH better access to those nasty motor mount bolt nuts.
My standard response to this question (and it is a serious opinion, too) is sell your V-6 car and use the money towards buying a factory V-8 car. I usually get flamed pretty good when I say that, but dollar-wise, it is the best way to go. But, like I said, you already have a lot of what you need from your other project, so that helps this one make more sense. You're still going to spend money getting what you don't have, though, won't you? Unless you plan on driving the '85 for quite a while after all this work, it still might not make sense. Perhaps getting a factory V-8 TPI car with a blown motor or tranny after you've sold the '85 would make more sense.
