Motor mounts

Its been a while since I worked on any third gen cars, so forgive me if this is an ignorant question...

I am dealing with a 4 bolt main motor out of a 70/80's pickup that was then swapped into a nova. The question is, are the mounts on the block the same, or are they different?

I replaced the mounts on the k-member with new ones and when installing the short block I can only get on bolt hole to line up.

Any suggestions welcome!

Re: Motor mounts

make sure the mounts are facing the right direction, and on the right side of the car. I know they look the same, but they are different for each side, and have to face the right direction.

Re: Motor mounts

Are you talking about the mounts on the k-member itself? I purchased them from AutoZone, part number 2292, says fits either side. Are u referring to the fact that there should be a top and bottom to each mount on the k-member? Is there a way to determine which side should be up? Those things are a B*TCH to get on the k-member......

The mounts on the block itself are the same for all the late 70's early 80's cars/trucks?

Re: Motor mounts

The mounts on the k-member are the same (both sides are the same exact part number). The motor side should be the same from f-body to truck, but it wouldn't hurt to double check. Make sure not to tighten down the one side you've already got in place, leave yourself some "wiggle room" by allowing the bolt to rotate if necessary. The aftermarket stuff sometimes can be a little out-of-spec, so you may need to play with a pry bar to get them both lined up. Remember, those rubber (or poly) inserts are not really held down by anything and can shift around a bit inside the mount housing.

Re: Motor mounts

Ill give it a try tonight and see what I can figure out as ill have an extra set of hands. Right now the side that is not lined up sits about 1" too high, not even close to where it needs to be....
