427 swap
427 swap
My Question is, how well would a 427 tall deck fit into my 82 z28. What would I need to do to make it fit properly. Im putting it in place of a 305. The car has a four speed. Would the starter work. And how hard is it to get headers for this application, Im from canada so i dont have to worry about emissions, I was just going to run it out the side. Would the driver side valve cover interfere with the wiper motor? And how hard is it to get a manifold for a tall block.

It's still a big block and would need the same considerations as any other BBC. The tall deck block is .400 taller. Valve cover interferance would be tight with low rocker covers and non existant with tall rocker covers. The exhaust ports would be taller so the BBC Hooker headers for third gens, although they would bolt up, may not have enough clearance undernieth the floor. You'd have to ask Hooker headers about that one. Just about every manifold is available for tall deck blocks. If it isn't then you just need the adaptor spacers to use a regular manifold. The starter is a maybe. Only 2 types of GM starters. 152 or 168 tooth ring gears. If it doesn't fit then just pick up the other starter.

You will have to run a mini starter if you use the hooker super comp headers. ~$375 USD from Jegs for the headers. If you run tall valve covers (ie roller rockers), the valve cover will hit the wiper motor.
