Possibly buying a Camaro RS setup for a carbed 350... Have a few questions.

Hey all im new on this forum. But I am looking at a 91 Rolling Camaro RS that has already been swapped to a 350 previously, but the own blew the trans so the car is just being sold as a roller. The car comes with a Posi 410 rear end. But the car has been previously setup for a carbed motor. He told me that any 350 would work for the swap. Is this true? I know if i went fuel injected i would need a whole new computer, wiring harness, and all those goodies. Is it worth the trouble of getting all of that together to go fuel injected? Also i dont have a very big budget... But the car has the right price and i found some decently cheap 350`s. Its just i dont know if i could really use any 350 i wanted and i dont want to jump into buying a motor that wont work.... Any advice? Also the car originally was equipped with a 305 then later swapped for a 350.

thanks,
Eric

Welcome to the boards. There's a ton of info available around here in the engine swap section, so it never hurts to take a look around.

Buying a car that's been converted to something other than stock (especially from FI to carb) is probably going to be a bit of a challege, since you're never quite sure what they did to get to that point (there's a million different ways that people convert; some good, some not so much).

What kind of trans are you looking to use? What part of the country do you live (possible emissions issues)? What are your goals out of the engine?

easy answer to your question: yes. more involved: maybe.

Re: Possibly buying a Camaro RS setup for a carbed 350... Have a few questions.

You mention that the PO blew the trans, so why the questions about replacing the motor? Don't you need a tranny for this car instead? I'm confused

Do you need a tranny or a motor, or both? What tranny is in it now? Have you verified it's really a 350 by the codes on the block? (you can't tell a 302 from a 350 from a 327 from a 305 without looking up the codes stamped on the block)

As asked, what state r u in ? What's your emissions requirements (ie are carbs legal if they didn't come with one originally)?

Is the car more than $1000 as is?

Sorry for the confusion but he sold the motor to someone else. It needs a trand and motor.

I dont want the fastest thing on the road. My goal for now is mild performance mainly.

By the way im in Michigan so i dont need to follow any emission laws. Im planning on bypassing all emissions actually. If there are any laws i really dont care about them for emissions atleast.
