454 TBI in a 91 RS
How hard would it be to swap in a 454 TBI and get it to pass emissions tests? I know the trucks had the 454 TBI. I was reading about how the motor mounts are the same. So the trans bolts up. What is there that doesn't work? Hood clearence? I know I'd need to get hooker or headman headers that were built for this exact swap. Now I guess my only other question is a custom chip with the stock 305 TBI system (with a 2" bore TB and big injectors of course). The only reason I'm asking is because I can get a brand new 454 that's been just sitting for 2 years for under $2000. I wouldn't have to pay for shipping either. In fact it's in the same place my car is sitting right now. Any ideas, any problems you guys see with the emissions/swap?

The only, ONLY way you could get this past inspection is if the hood is never opened. Although the 454 was in trucks, they are classified, certified, and tested to different standards than passenger cars. One look at that big hunk of iron under the hood, you'll be on your way home - do not pass Go, do not collect $200.

A while back I asked North Carolina DMV about an engine swap. They said as long as all the orginal emission stuff was hooked up and it passed the sniffer test no problem.
Then they asked,"What kind of car?"
And I said, "91 Camaro"
And he said,"NO BIG BLOCK, a 350 is fine but NO BIG BLOCK's no 454's or 396's understand?"
Must be alot of 3rdGen's had asked before...LOL

Have to admit I like the idea of a 454 TBI, that would be one TBI car the TPI crowd (and most others) would treat with RESPECT.
