The reason I started this post was because I have found a machine shop that is selling this engine thats has been bored over to a 412 with dart s/r heads 2.08I and 1.90E valves an Edelbrock performer intake, a rebuilt ccc qjet, and everything else except the distributor. The guy I talked to said he was building it for somebody with an 84 Z28 that decided to back out at that the end, he said the engine is capable of handling a 150-200 shot of nitrous. He is only asking $2500 for the complete engine! My friend and I are going to check it out tomorrow, is their anything inparticular that I should look for to make sure it is a good rebuild? Any comments would be great, thanks.

412 ci is a .060" overbore. That's pretty far for a stock block 400. You should probably check to see if the block was ultrasonicly checked before the boring to ensure there was adequate wall thickness.
Other than that, try to get the build sheet so you know what all they did to it and what they put into it. It sounds like a good deal providing nothing was machined too thin.
You could also have "issues" with things like flex plate & starter. Search previous posts on 383/400 swaps for those solutions.

The 400SB will bolt in as long as you use
the mount brackets from a third gen 305.
Use the 400 harmonic balancer and flexplate, and 400 timing cover and tab if the
engine will remain externally balanced.
Since the 400 SB is externally balanced,
it uses a 14" 168 tooth flexplate. Use the
large frame starter with diagonal mounting
holes or an aftermarket gear reduction unit
which has mounting holes for both 153 and
168 tooth starters. The 400 SB has the dipstick on the driver's side of the block
which is not a problem if you use headers.
If you must have the dipstick on the pass-
enger side you must install an adapter block
to use a 1980-1985 oil pan and Camaro dip
stick and tube assembly.

I went to check out the motor and the block was only bored .030 over. He reground the crank so the stroke is now 3.8 instead of 3.75, thats where he got the extra 6ci. The carb comes with it which he sent out to Jet and I would need a chip for it to run. What would the price be for a chip? Thanks for your help.
