305 to ZZ4

hey, i pretty much know which car i want, i decided on a 1986 Z28 since most of the Zs in my area were not beautiful from 82-84. o well, it has a 305 TPI.

can i put my new (just arrived) ZZ4 under the TPI settup until i get my fuel injection? and, can i transfer all parts from my 305 to the ZZ4 easily?

How much power would u think i would get with the TPI settup on top of the ZZ4? how much with the edelbrck performer rpm pro-flo injection kit?

thanks!

Car: 82 Berlinetta/57 Bel Air

Well, nobody's taken a shot at this, so I'll pass on what a buddy has found with his ZZ3 (basically the same as a ZZ4).

The stock '86 TPI will not make that ZZ4 all that happy, although it will probably run better than the 305. Everything should transfer except the flex plate (which came with the ZZ4, anyway, so that's not a problem?). But, the small throttle body, restricted plenum, long/small runners, etc. are all going to work against the natural likes of the ZZ4 (flow & RPMs). You'll probably limit the engine to about 300 equines.

The Edelbrock is a stand-alone carb conversion. You'd be by-passing the stock ECM and would therefore lose some of its functions (such as TCC lockup if automatic). $2k would be a lot of money to me, but it should run pretty well. I'd think you could get a TPI system to run just as well for that kind of money and not lose any other functions.

im not loosing any kind of trans things since i ordered my TCI Street Fighter non-lockup 700R4 trans, and a TCI Break-a-way non-lockup converter. sorry i didnt say that in the original post. but besides the trans, will the comp be effected in any other way?

This is probably what you're looking for. Good luck and I'd say stay with TPI just because you've got it. This is what I figure.
It's easier to modify current intake system for a different motor than to get a different motor and have the intake system hard to modify to work with the rest of your car. Good luck
