Easiest crate engine to replace my slow 305?

I have an 86 TA in excellent condition. the problem is that it lacks power and it has 112,000 miles on it. it now has a 305 4bb. I was wondering which crate engine would be easy to put in. Should I get rid of all the computer crap? Will I need to buy anthing exta? I'm looking for something that i can modify a little later. all i need now is a 350 that won't exceed $1,500. Thanks for any suggestions.

for 1500 bucks, you will have to stick with a "replacement" engine or "target motor", which will be from GM Goodwrench, not GM Performance Parts. these aren't really considered a crate engine as far as performance goes. you can pick them up for like 1200 bucks, check www.paceparts.com.

I would save up for a Vortec crate 350, yes it's more money. ($2000 or so) But it would make your car outrun new GT's 5-speed's and Auto.
