ZZ4 H.O Kit (Smog Legal)

Hey Everyone

I have been reading all the posts about this kit and I would just like to verify what this kit really does. First the shop I work for has just installed this kit in a 1986 LG4 IROC-Z with all the options like Air tilt Cruise etc. the only things we did slightly differntly where we had the whole Transmission rebuilt using the new components and we also had the carb rebuild using the metering rods and a slight cfm increase. Also we did some porting and port matching on the ZZ4. when it all came to gather it was a very simple insatall. The car then ran a 13.71 @ 101mph. We felt that it could do better so we added Hotchkis Panhard Rod with A set of springs along with an edelbrock struttower bar ,subframs connectors and a set of delco replacemnt shocks and struts. the car then ran a 13.61@106. This was with the stock 3.23 rear gear and an Aburn posi.

I would recomend this kit to any LG4 owner. It creates a smog legal force to be reconed with.

Sorry for the long post. And I can find the 0-60 foot time sheet.

Oh and we also used a K&N filter. Also the Tires used in the 1/4 mile test were p245 R50 Eagle GT II from goodyear with a rear psi of cold 43. And the total cost of the build up was about $6000 American.

I just contacted GM today about this zz4 H.O. kit and can u believe they knew nothing about it. They told me about a zz5 350. Oh well , I guess i will order online. Do u think that would be a good idea?

I would order the kit from www.paceparts.com they are a pretty good outfit so I have heard but I have never used them B/C I am in Canada. If you are going to use this kit you own it to your self to have the carb and trans prof rebuilt. Also make sure you use all new vacum lines, 10+ year old vac lines never seen to work in high pref application's. Other wise good luck.

What do you think about using the kit with a manual. I know it is made for an auto but do you think I can use it in a manual? What mods to the tranny would I have to do, or would it be cheaper to swap in a 6 speed?

GM is working on a kit like this that is almost exacly the same but it is for use with a manual transmission and it should be out in a couple of months. Contact www.paceparts.com and see if they know when it will be avaible.

Unfortunatly no their is not a kit for TPI setups at this time. But how knows maybe GM will make one. An LS1 upgrade kit would be nice.
