Caprice LT1 swap?
Caprice LT1 swap?
I've read most of the LT1 engine swaps on this board, so I'll make my question sraight forward. The local j-yard has a Caprice with the 91C package, and the 5.7L LT1. I know this is not the mother of the LT1's but it beats the hell out of my 305 LG4. What all will be needed, aside from motor mounts, wiring harness, ans Comp. The price tag is $850.00 Not sure if it's with or without the harness or comp.
Thanks,
Richard

Hey, if it is a '91, its not an LT1. LT1's did not come out until 1992 for Corvettes and not until 1994 for B-body. It could still be a decent engine though... If you want an LT1, this ain't it.
I'm sorry, you miss understood me. What I menat to write is. The 1994 Chevy Caprice thats at the junk yard has the 9C1 Police Package. The engine is the 5.7L LT1. It is not the Corvette or Camaro LT1. But it does produce more power than my stock 305 LG4. What all is needed to complete the swap from a B-Body LT1 into an 87 F-Body?
The engine cost is $850.
Thanks;

actually, all Caprices had the 4.3L (283?) LT1, nicknamed the Baby LT1. I would try to find one from a Camaro/Firebird or Vette.

Hey 87Cz the engine swap info can be found at www.hpsalvage.com, you will need to mod the pass side engine mount, get a custom harness, beat up the crossmemeber, and use 3rd gen v8 exh. manifolds or headers, im going to do the same swap since the caprice LT1 is easier to find they are stamped on the back of the block 5.7 or 4.3 so you can tell before you buy, the only diff is the alum heads on the f body which can be picked up for cheap on ebay.
