Bore a 305 ot to a 350 or buy a 350
I was wondering which is better borring out a 305 to a 350 or buying a new 350. What are the pros and cons to each one. Or changing the stroke on the 305 to a 350.

You can't bore out a 305 to 4". There isn't enough metal in the block. If you want a 350, you need a 4" bore block.
Stroking a 305 only gets you 334

Best results before the 383 blew up
Best ET on a time slip: 11.857 altitude corrected to 11.163
Best MPH on a time slip: 117.87 altitude corrected to 126.10
Altitude corrected rear wheel HP based on power to weight ratio: 476.5
Best 60 foot: 1.662
Racing at 3500 feet elevation but most race days it's over 5000 feet density altitude!

The 305 and 350 do have the same stroke but do not have the same bore. Unfortunately, as Stephen 87 IROC pointed out, the 305 cannot be bored out enough to make a 350. Also, one of the little quirks between the 305 and 350 is that even though the stroke is the same, the crankshafts are not the same. A good resource for information that I would recommend you get is the Chevrolet Power Manual (or Performance Manual, whatever they call it). It outlines the differences between all small blocks and tells you about interchangeability of parts and so forth.

If you don't ask questions you won't learn a darn thing. I am still learning and would ask any question no matter how dumb some people might think it is. I remeber when I first started getting into performance I asked a freind if I could put Big block heads on my sbc. He told me "No stupid u can't", but now I know.

I must appologize for my ignorant remark, I once was unenlightened myself. Just last summer I managed to fill my engine up with water. I have an '83 fiberglass hood on my car, and I decided to make the ducts functional with a drywall saw. The next day we had a monsoon, and I cracked two starter housings before I figured out what had happened. If it wasn't for the people on this board, I would have assumed the LG4 was farked over, and got my 350 along time ago
