350 swap, or buy a Z..... Choices...

I have been contimplating putting a 350 in my RS for a looooong time, but recently have been doing some more thinking.

Which one would be a better Idea? Should I spend all the time and money putting a 350 in my car, or just find a nice white Z?
Which one would be cheaper.....

Anyone from Texas, what is the going rate for a good running Z lately?

Thanks,
Daniel

I would go with the Z, higher resale value ( for the most part) better handling, and tpi, and wouldnt you rather tell someone you got a z instead of a rs? i would.

Well,
About the resale value..... I dont really plan on selling the car. Regardless of which one I have. The resale value on either one wont be much until it is like 50 years old.

About the handling, That can all be done to the RS too..... Larger sway bars, SFC's, ROH ZS 17's... What else did the Z have for suspension, as compared to the RS?
Did the 92 Z's have a wonderbar?

I'm not sure but i think only the irocs had the wonder bars, but why install all the suspension extras and the new engine when you can just buy it as a whole, with the tpi, which i think is 10 times better then tb

Even if you don't consider resale value, you'll spend less money selling your RS and buying a factory Z than you would converting your V6 RS.

There's something to being able to say "I built it myself", but it doesn't translate to the pocketbook.

But, there's always the "devil you know vs. the devil you don't" factor. You'll have to decide that one for yourself.

Something else to consider - insurance will be less for a RS than it will for a Z28. If you do the performance upgrades yourself, your insurance company won't know. They'll only ask you if it's a Z28. But they'll get the engine size from the VIN, so if you swap in a V8 to replace a V6, and you don't tell them, and they later find out (insurance investigation after an accident, for example), they probably will not cover the accident and drop you.

If you really care if others know you have a Z28 or RS, then maybe that would be a better question... (do you live to satisfy other people or yourself?)

I personally like the idea of having a car that is portrayed as normal or underpowered, but in reality is not, as was posted above. I suppose you could call it the "surprise factor" - something that is not expected.

Well,
I dont personally care too much about telling people "I have a Z28!..."
That only really matters to people who dont know a whole lot about the camaro scene...
Most people who know a little bit will ask, "what have you done to it..." Thats what really matters. Its cool to show people what your car was, as opposed to what it is now.

The insurance thing is something I should think about.... That could be a problem. I seem to be having bad luck lately.

The only thing is is the fact that I am in college and dont have a whole lot of extra money.
Besides, some moron hit the RS behind the rear passenger side wheel, and my car got bit by a horse, and took a nice area of paint off of the drivers side front fender and the hood... I just about killed that horse...

So, I need a paint job and body work for the RS....

Any other opinions?
