Problems starting!!!

I have an 86 camaro that had a v6 in it. I swaped it for a 1978 350ci 4 bolt out of a chevy blazer. But I used the heads out of an 86 T/A with the TPI setup. Everything in this motor is new. Its getting fuel and fire, the valves are adjusted right, as far as I know the timing seems to be correct but for some reason it dosen't want to start. The engine is turns but does not fire off. The more I turn the distributor the more it seems like it wants to start But Im almost possitive that I have the timing right.

My question is would my using the heads from a previously fuel injected car make any difference on the engine's starting capability?

ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I don't know about your specific problem but you might be glad the car never started anyhow. Swapping 305 heads onto an earlier 350 without changing pistons will result in very high unstreetable compression. Have you accounted for this?

I had the short block rebuilt at a machine shop and they put new dished pistons in it. Would these pistons be a problem?

The dished pistons will help keep your compression down, but those heads aren't the best performance pieces. That's not causing your no-start problem.

I'd suspect you've got your distributor in 180 degrees off. Make sure you have the #1 piston on the compression/power stroke, then check the distributor again.
