That would be correct.

The 6-cylinder has a different bell housing than the V8, it won't bolt up. The V8 clutch has different splines in the center, the 6-cyl trans will not engage them.

WRONG ! The V6 trans. will work the whole problem is for how long, to do it just use the V8 bellhous and an early V6 disc with the Z28 press. plate i have done it, works, the disc will be slightly smaller than it should be but it will work, i make nooo guarantee whatsoever that you wont grenade that V6 T5 but i have done it.

I'd listen to him. The man knows his stuff!

As for can it be made to work, anything can be made to work but why mickey mouse it? The V-6 trans isn't rated or designed for the torque of a V-8. It won't (as in WILL NOT) last in a V-8 application.

OK guys,

He has a 4 Speed in his '82 V6 car and wants to know if it'll work with the V8. Is the input shaft the same length between the V8 and the V6?

He told me it was a saginaw. Would this be stronger than a V6 T5?

Well, I've read the thread, but don't think I'll be much use here. I can speak for the T-5 manual (it can work), and the automatics (no way), but don't have a clue if the 4 speed will work or not.
