ZZ4 with TPI? can this be accomplished?

I also read the article in Super Chevy about the zz4 swap. Great article, but they mentioned that TPI would not work on that engine. Is it just a matter of PROM? Couldn't I just get one custom cut for me?

I currently have a 350 L98 with TPI and I would love to throw a ZZ4 under that TPI set up. It's been ported and matched.

Give me some ideas all.

thanks,

SB

I read that article too. Notice they didn't say the price. Of course you can put a TPI on it. I don't know why they said it couldn't be done. Ever notice magazines have no knowledge at all about TPI? I saw one where they must've spent $5,000 on bolt-ons and the car only ran mid 13's.

Haven't been to track with new motor
If you have any questions on converting from TBI to TPI email me at jdkchevy70@yahoo.com
In memory of Dale Earnhardt, I'll miss cheering for that black #3 on raceday!!!

Co-worker racing buddy here converted from TBI to ZZ3 TPI, using a mix of factory and aftermarket parts. The ZZ3 is basically the same as the ZZ4 currently available. Changing yours would be a lot less work than what he's done.

He's done some other rather radical mods, so needed a custom chip. But, yes, it can be done.

done the swap myself. you will need to redrill your intake manifold or get a aftermarket lower that is drilled for both angles. if you have serpentine belt drive, you will need a water pump that is for serpentine drive. the car should run with the stock prom setup,,,but get one that is more friendly for the zz4. if you have the $$$$$,,the future may hold some runners or a superram. have fun..

A little more detail about the ZZ4 conversion done in the mag: They were talking about the GM emissions legal kit, which so far is only certified for carb'd auto cars. What they meant by "not for TPI" is that it has not be certified as a kit for TPI. That's all.

The factory considers the ZZ4 to be "pre-'75" or "off-road use only" with regards to emissions - so, a dealer won't put one in for you. That doesn't mean you can't put one under your TPI and pass emissions testing.
