ya they will but its kindof a pain the 350s crank has more heavy metal in it(to balance the larger pistons) The rods shouldnt be a problem (not sure on these) But i am sure that the cranks may look the same on the inside they are different.

oh ya you could probley get a new 350 crank for under 275$ if you rebalanced and turned a 305s crank you would probley spend more then the new crank.
good luck man

You would have to add weight to the crank to get it to balance the larger pistons. That is an expensive job. Cheaper to buy a 350 crank.

It was my imression that the 305 cranks were of a lighter contruction. The rotating mass of a 305 is of lighter construction to save energy lose and improve gas mailage. I just picked up a 350 crank for $125 from my local machine shop. Its just a cast crank, but I would feel safer with it, then a 305 crank.

Thanks guys. I figured that is what yall would say but I went ahead and asked. Yeah i probally would go ahead and get 350 crank but i may go a head and use the 305 rods if i have to. Does anyone know what stock rods are rated to run to with out danger of throwing one? Thanks again!

You dont want 305 rods. Someone made a post before, I think on the tech/general engine board, with a pic showing the difference, and the 305 rod is considerably smaller.

Not all 305 rods are like that....

My 83 L69 came with X rods.

The 305 and 350 crank are the same casting (usually 442), same stroke and everything. The 267 even uses that same casting. They are balanced slightly differently in the case of 305s that use the weenie rods. A 305 crank that came with real rods should be the same balance as a 350 one. Heavy metal is not used by the factory in balancing cranks; they just make the counterweights too big and then drill holes in them to get them right.

Cranks are not balanced to the pistons, since the pistons don't rotate. They're balanced primarily to the big end of the rod; since the rest of the mass of the rod "rotates" progressively les and less as it approaches the small end, all that has relatively little effect on the balance. All you have to do with pistons is make sure they're all the same mass, since an equal number of them is going up as are going down at any given instant.

the 305 and 350 cranks were the same castings but they were balanced different like mentioned earlier.

as far as the rods i have always heard that 305 rods were lighter and generally stronger than 350 rods.

think that the main bearing journals are slightly different sizes from 305 to 350
