Need another engine
I started stripping down the race engine while it's still in the car. It'll be pulled tomorrow to see how much damage is done to the bottom end. So far it looks like I need a new short block and a head.
#3 spark plug damaged and combustion chamber is in poor shape. I don't think the head is worth saving.
The head of the #3 intake valve is sticking straight up out of the piston. There's also a hole in the piston.
The #3 cylinder wall has a crack from top to bottom or at least as far down as I can see with a piston still in the hole.
When I pull the engine and tear down the bottom end I'll know if the crank is still good and if I need a new con rod for the cylinder.
Worst case for new parts. Block, crank, a con rod, a new piston, all the machining and balancing required for it. Another head with a couple of new valves plus all the machine work required.
Depending on parts availability and finances I hope to be back on-track before the end of the season.

Hi,
I have a 350 4 bolt main block for sale. Vintage mid 70's. Mild rust spots in 2 cylinders (from sitting), hone *should* clean it up but I can't say for sure. If not, then you'll have to bore it. (I was planning on boring it)
Actually, I have the complete engine (it's totally disassembled) Cast crank is good, needs polish only (was checked by machine shop that builds/runs Busch cars). Rods appear OK, pistons show some scuff on skirts and are probably no good. Head bolts, rod caps (numbered), etc included. Heads (complete, assembled) will need a valve job. They're just stock smog heads, nothing special. Quadrajet carb (rebuild it) & cast intake included as well as HEI distributor, mechanical fuel pump & water pump. Pushrods, exhaust manifolds too, if you want them. I doubt you'll want the cam & lifters, lol.
I bought it torn down for a 383 project, but I changed my mind.
Basically, you're buying a good block with bonus used parts tossed in, OK? I'll guarantee the block to be crack-free. Bought it from a friend that tore it down, said it ran decent. If it's cracked, I'll take it back. Deal?
I'm in Massachusetts and really can't (and really don't, lol) want to ship the block. Figure on picking it up here.
First $150.00 bucks takes it all or I'll trade/swap with you. Let me know what you have. I could sure use four 16 inch tires for IROC rims.
Thanks,
Ed

Massacuttes to Calgary is a long way to ship an engine block. I know for sure that there's no shortage of small blocks in North America. But, I hear that you Calgary guys aren't so smart.
Spoken like a true Edmontonian, I guess.
Good luck with the next block.
