rebuilding engine getting rid of computer stuff?
Ok a machine shope here in town will rebuild my 305HO for 900 bucks and they do good work. They are slow now thats why they are doing it cheap. I want to remove the computer stuff from the car. What do i need to replace? I know I need a new dist. and non cc carb, but what else? Do I need to change sending units for guages like the temp, oil, etc? I need all info on doing this so to save me the cost of someone else doing it. Thanks for any help provided. OH ya i have a 1984 Pontiac Trans Am 305HO with 5speed tranny.

Here is what I did on my 87 5.0 4BBL.
Replace distributor and carb.
Remove SES light.
Its that simple.
The only sensors that I have hooked up are the one's for the gauges. On my engine they are:
Oil Pressure Located top rear of manifold, single connector.
Water Temp Located Driver's side between #1 and #3 pistons
Tach Located beside Batt on distributor
Voltage Part of the plug on the alternator.
Thats all I really have hooked up.
I ran a hot wire to the carb (didnt know where the orginal choke wire was, you can re use your old one)
Ran a wire to my electrical pump.
And thats all the electricity, besides various grounds, that are on the motor.
Hope this helped some

For 900 what does that include ? Most parts stores should be able to get you a 350 for less than that for complete engine minus intake and carb etc.
the rebuild includes new pistons, connecting rods, push rods rebuilt heads with some porting, cleaned block, machine the crank, bored.030 over, a 36000mile/3year warranty, all new gaskets, basically machine what can be machined or replace it. I am sure there is more but cant remember exaclty.
