V6 to 305

i was looking in the classifieds today, and i saw a 84 Z28 with a HO 305, and a 5 speed, and a smashed up rear end for $350, and im thinking about putting it in my 87 camaro with a 2.8 and automatic. Ill be buying the whole car so ill have all the suspension parts and comp, how much of a project is it to put a standard into an auto car?

I've never put a standard into an auto car, but I've heard credible reports of it being done in a weekend.

V6 to V8 - that's a big job.

A few things you should consider: 1) You're doing it the right way, getting a complete donor car. Take pictures of both before and while you take things apart, label EVERYTHING. Change anything and everything that is different between the two cars. 2) If you have to go through emissions inspection/testing, an '84 system is not legal in an '87 chassis. 3) I assume your '87 is MPFI - which uses an in-tank electric fuel pump. For the '84 carb, you'll need to either take out the pump and use the '84 tank system (some people say just suck through the pump), or put on an APFR to bring the pressure down to carb levels.

oh god. save yourself the time, fustration and money and just buy a V8 car. im doing a V6 to V8 swap in an oldsmobile cutlass(which is supposed to be easier than an fbody v6 to v8) and its hell. so many little things you dont count on. im a month into my swap and broke.

unless you have unlimited cash and time, just buy a V8 car.

or thats my opinion however.

zerogauge is right. Its easier to just buy the car already as you like it.

Another thought is, how long can you tolerate down time? If like me, downtime is a bad bad thing.

Just my thoughts
