Should i swap 305HO for 305 TPI?????

I currently have an 84H.O. Trans Am. It has the carb 305 and serious electrical problems. I also have a complete running 88 GTA with a 305 TPI that was T boned. I would like to swap the entire engine and electrical system including the Guage cluster(it has the 140 speedo) My question is is it worth the hassle or should i part out the GTA and look for 350 TPI. I want the TPI but would like car to run mid to low 14's. I had planned on doing the free mods(machine down the metal obstructions in plenum) and the basics exhaust, a good stall speed. My car currently has open ended 3.73 so hopefull y gears are ok and i could just put a posi in it. I can't really tell how the 305 runs now the transmission in the GTA is thrashed and will not shift into second gear under full throttle. First gear feels good though. My car ran a best of 15.3 at 90 when it ran and i just don't want to go through all the hassle to be dissapointed i have seen timeslips for some 305 TPI's stock that were in the 15-16's. Any opinons on this swap would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason

a stock 305 tpi will run 15-16's, but with a few cheap mods it can be a contender, chip, exhaust, throttle body, port and polish, stall converter, posi is a must to run 14's, pull a later model z rear end from the junkyard for a hundred bucks, theyll usually have disc brakes too, k and n filters, induction, better heads...not too cheap. cam, crane makes a good one, and with higher pressure fuel pump and injectors, it could be quick. powerhouse engine kits also sells a 335 stroker kit for it if ya wanna be a bit unusual, runs $798 balnced plus tax and shipping. race seats and other weight savings will help, and definately stiffer springs.
