305 to 350?

I have a 85 z28 w/305 carb. I would like to start doing engine work but not sure where to start. Build up the 305 or drop in a 350. Can u guys give me tips for both staying with the 305 and building that up and if putting in 350 and building that up. Please describe best things for doing both.

depends on how much money you have and how fast you want to go.

the 305 will cost more money in the long run to keep it up with a 350 but cheaper to start with because you already have the 305 core.

with a 350 your going to have to find a block and theres money spent.

we need to know what your goals are before we can really make some good suggestions.

however either way your going to want a good set of heads if you have high expectations. count about a grand out towards that. but if you keep the 305 i have heard some good things about the world products sr 305 heads. i think they maybe about 750-800

You are opening a can of worms. There are so many diff. opinions here you're gonna get that your head is gonna spin faster than your crankshaft. Do what your wallet will let you.

ok, if ya wanna spend the money on the 350, and your gonna rebuild the bottom end...make it a 383. A stroker crank now runs about the same as a 350 crank nowadays, and ya get more cubes
