ok guys i made up my mind i'm going with a 350. Let me know what i would need to get for it to build it up from bottom to top? And where the best place to get the 350? is it worth buying a crate engine that's what i mean?

What are you starting with? A 305 and you can use a few of the parts on the 350. A V6 and you need to plan on other stuff such as exhaust, ignition etc.

Machine work. If boring the block .030 then add about $12/hole. Depending on how much work you intend to do yourself there's even more cost.

Installing new pistons on con rods, new cam bearings. Add in the price of new rod and main bearings.

Heads? Stock over the counter replacement heads or something better? Reconditioning a set of old heads? Add in a valve job, new springs, maybe new valves and guides.

I built my big block over the winter from scratch. I started with a short block. Counting every nut, bolt, gasket, fitting etc then final total came to just over $8000 Canadian. That's buying just about everything to make an engine and install it in the car. Some stuff I already had and could reuse. Ignition, distributor etc.

It's going to come down to how much of a budget you have and what you intend to do with the engine. Buying a 350 replacement engine from a local supplier is cheap. Change the cam to something better and you're off to a good start and it should last for many miles and years. Building or buying a performance engine just takes a little planning and investment.
