Going from 305HO to 350 crate, which knock sensor?
I am swapping in the GM performance parts 350HO engine in a 1986 Monte Carlo SS that originally came with the 305HO. I believe I need a knock sensor for a 350, but since there was never a 350 offered in the Monte Carlo SS in the '80 which do I use? What will work correctly with the original computer? Are all knock sensors compatible? Part numbers?

any knock sensor should work from a GM V8.i've heard that the 91-92 5.7 K/S's aren't as senative as some of the older ones.one of these should work.i could be wrong but i think all of the connectors are the same.i would take the K/S with you when you go to get the new one

You will also need a module for a 350, it is for the knock sensor. I lost all the info on this, so I don't know the part numbers anymore if I find it I will post it.

Or you can run an LT4 KS (~$40), like me. Appearently there are three designs of KS: 305 (all indunctions), 350 (TBI, TPI and LT1) and LT4 (has a unique part number). I don't remember the part number though, but this is what came up (IIRC) in the GM computer when I was looking for a KS at the dealer.

When I was ordering some parts from SDPC I asked the guy I was talking to about a K/S for my 350 that will replace my 305tbi and he asked one of the service techs witch one I needed, well all the service tech said was that I needed the one to match the ecm I'll be using. I also ask a freind who worked at a GM dealership and he said the same thing. I wish I had some concreet evidence on which one is right. Doesn't matter or change K/S and matching module.

I have that same engine now. I just asked for a knock sensor for a truck that had vortec heads, 96 c/k pickup. It was that easy, they pulled the part off the shelf and gave it to me. It works
