v-6 to v-8(wiring hell)
v-6 to v-8(wiring hell)
well, ive got everything in,got the t-5 bolted up after tapping and drilling starter bolt holes(as youve seen in my prievous post)..now im on to wiring....im running all the sensors on my motor that a 305 would have, and i have all the correct connectors from my other camaro...bat+ and tach on hei distributor, oil pressure, coolant temp, etc.ive got the starter hooked up...but two things
i want to run a instrument cluster with gauges(mine right now has idiot lights)..does anyone have a wire cross-refenence table?(example: bat+ on 350 hei dist pink ,and pink/white stripe on grey v-6 dist connector, etc)
im also wondering if i switch sensors and connectors for oil pressure, coolant temp, tach, etc, if then my new v-8 gauges cluster will work correctly....i know somebody here has been in this same spot please help me out
thanks mike

86 camaro:was a v6 car,now its going to be a v-8 5.7l!!
350:cylinders bored .040 over.a little over 9:1 compression(getting a blower some day when im rich lol)line bored.deck is milled a little(was pitted)
trw forged pistons with summit stage 2 polished rods with arp bolts.
194? intake valves(not 2.02
( ),pocket ported,gasket matched,and polished ports,torker2 intake with new zinc 650 holley
matched comp cam...runs great on pump gas!!
ase certified for a few years, learned alot though
working on freakin NEONS ,cirruses, tauruses, cobras(well` at least they look nice lol)and intrepids all day makes me drink too much
good job security though
im always on the lookout for cheapv-8 t-5,s
and t-56 setups.they must be cheap.i dont care of they need rebuild,as long as they arent totally blown
also looking for a pair of iroc taillights,and a 145 speedo(cable driven)

Mike:
I did the same swap to my '86 about 6 months ago but with a few differences: I put in a 400 sb, I have an auto tranny, and I installed an Edelbrock ProFlo fuel injection setup. I also removed my gauge cluster(idiot lights and extra large king sized fuel gauge) and installed a 145mph cluster. If you use the correct sensors that the new gauge cluster requires, the gauges will work properly with no other wiring changes.

good thats what i wanted to hear, just a matter of changing connectors and figuring the wire color diff. between v-6 and v-8..i was just hoping that somebody already did it and wrote down the colors.oh well, ill have to do it the hard way i guess

well write this down:
grey coil connector,v-6:
pnk/wht v-6 to pnk(bat+)on v-8 hei dist
blk/wht v-6 to tan tach output v-8 hei
oil pressure conector will reach and is the same.
the fusable links on the v-6 wont fit into the heat shield on the v-8,i just cut a slot down it and streched it out a little and they fit and are long enough to bolt up to the starter no problem.
use the coolant switch wire(green wire,on a/c compressor harness) for the coolant gauge(youll have to put a different end on it)
the fuel tank(i switched from elect pump tank to no pump tank)
use the 3 wire yelow connector from the v-6 tank, and cut-off the brown/white wire(that WAS for the elect pump).there will be a black wire and a pink wire left.those are the same color as the two wires on the older manual pump tank.cut off the 2 wire connector on the v-8 older tank, and solder the pink to pink, and black to black.they match up by color the same.if you were to keep your v-6 tank+elect pump, you would want to hook up the brn/wht wire to a keyed hot wire, unless it already runs with the key on(not sure, think the relay is controlled by the computer).
i kept the electric fan.find a keyed hot wire(has power with the key on,but not off.)Theres a tan/wht wire going to the relay(dr front corner,by vin plate),cut the wire 3"from the relay, and hook it up to the keyed power.then, cut the two green/white wires 3"away from the relay, and ground them.the fan relay should energise, and the fan should now run as soon as the key is turned on.
i know im forgetting something, email me if you need to know what to cut, etc.
