89 camaro v6 to v8 swap, how difficult?
Hello everyone,
I am a 19 year old college student and recently bought a 1989 camaro RS with the v6 engine for $700. Body is in great condition and it runs, it was a steal! Only problem is I want a muscle car, not a v6. My uncle has agreed to restore the car for me, but I was just wondering how hard the swap is to a 350 engine? How much of the suspension system has to be completely swapped out? Any useful information will help...this is my first camaro and I want it to be nice when I'm done.

That was very helpful, thank you. In your opinion, would it be worth it to put all that work into my $700 dollar v6 camaro or just sell it and buy a v8 model even if the motor is no good? The camaro I have now is in good condition with a nice body but everything mechanical needs to be changed for the most part. I was planning on doing a full restoration.

It's probably worth it. 5 years ago I wouldn't have said that, but nice V8 cars for a reasonable price are becoming harder to find. Nice V6 cars are easier to find because they don't tend to have been beat on, and less expensive because they have a V6.
FWIW, to me, "restore" means to "return to original factory condition". Putting a V8 in a V6 car pretty much negates that. Not sure what word or term I'd use to replace it; "fix up" doesn't seem to quite make it. "Trick out" - yuck! But, whatever. . .

You shouldn't hijack people's threads. But sounds like a sweet lsx swap which there's a section of the forum dedicated to already.
