Hey ya'll, I think I have a chance to get a a 454 that is built pretty stout(don't know exactly what is in it yet) for about $2000. Would this be a wise choice, and would the 700r4 last very long if I went easy on it. Let me know what you think.

I think that your tranny would be the least of your problems. It will hold up a whole lot better with a performance rebuild though. Your rear will not take it though.. WAY too much torque. The u-joints will be the next thing to give. You will have serious traction problems. It would be an awsome install though!!

I think Omega got it backwards.

Your tranny will last for awhile if you take it easy. The preformance rebuild is a very smart idea though. The 700R4 can be rebuilt to take whatever that engine is going to dish out, even 600 hp. IIRC you have a 92 camaro, those have the stronger axles. It won't last forever if your hard on it but, it will live happily behind a 454 with a smart driver. If the U-joints are in good shape they won't give any problems either. If it was me... I'd change them during the swap just to be sure. Then all you have to do is keep a good maintanince(sp?)schedule.

Is it a 2 bolt or 4 bolt main? How old it the rebuild? Do you know any of the parts used in the rebuild? 2K for good 454 is good deal 2K for a nasty old truck motor with cheap parts is not.

he says he has the sheet with all the specs. He mentioned it has a lunati hydralic cam, an 850 carb. He still doesn't know if he is going to keep it. But I will find out more.
