LT5 swap

Anyone here ever see an LT5? This was the ZR1 motor and it made 375 horses so it really rocks. If I could find one totaled what are the odds it could transfer to my 91 z? Also if the motor was around in 91 why didn't GM make a ZL1 camaro with it? Just curious...

I have seen the Lt-5, It's a monster! Quad over head cams. Would love to try a swap into my Camaro, but you are looking at probably around $10,000 just for the motor. It would be a lot cheaper to just build a hi-po motor from scratch. If you decide to try it, let us know how it goes

I used to sell Chevys and from what I remember, (I would forget nothing about that engine) the 1995 was rated at 405hp. I would assume (I know that's a bad word) that all crate LT5s after that, are rated the same. Not too many dealer's saw them either. Mine didn't. They had to keep $25K worth of parts in stock in order to sell a ZR1!!!!!!! The only time I've seen the LT5 was at The Chicago Auto Show. It was actually designed by Mercury. You know, the boat motor company. I think that fits well since the name "Corvette" came from a warship!!

LT5 was designed by a then GM owned, Lotus. Mercury Marine then built them. I have a book that shows one in an IROC to test the limits of 3rdgen capability. Looks pretty cool. Last I checked, those crate engines were $30k brand new. Might be lower now, maybe $20k

no prob. The ZR1 is what sparked my interest in cars again. I have all kinds of magazines with it and with the Callaway twin turbo of the day.
