VATS ECM into non VATS car

When I complete my swap of a 91 350 TPI into my '88 camaro what provisions might I have to make in order to bypass/disable the VATS system in the 91 ECM? Will I even have to worry about it since the car didn't have it to begin with? Thanks

You will have to disable the VATS in the eprom. You will need an equivalent Memcal for a SD car for you limp mode to work. Just have it reburned with VATS disabled.

If your not into Prom burning i'm sure you could convert the entire locking cylinder over, but thats a pain and i would suggest the reburn of the prom.

Just giving an alternative solution.

Hey Brendan.
I take it you don't know where the VATS module is installed, do you?

You have to disassemble the entire dashboard, including the dashboard mounts
to get to the module. Since the mount is welded and riveted on, it is a pretty big PITA. You could cut a hole in the dash mount to remove it, I guess.
I have a spare 89 Formula with VATS, and I wanted to swap the modules because I swapped key cylinders, and I started tearing the dash apart. I gave up after a couple of hours...

I am planning on burning my own proms sooner or later, but right now I just need the car to start to make sure I did everything correctly. Is there someway to bypass it mechanically without touching the memcal? I know I could put in the correct resistor but what wire/wires controls the VATS? Thanks again.

dont know why it would have taken a couple of hours just to disassemble the dash, everything bolts together and even the VATS is bolted in. it took me about two hours to have the dash apart, take out the VATS, relocate the new one, and have the dash back together.
