Starter Problem
Starter Problem
Hey, I'm still stuck with this F'in Project!! Anyway, newest problem is that I needed a shorty starter to fit the flywheel. The flex plate is off an 84 305" Z28 it has the 53 teeth. The motor is a Crate motor dated to 86. It has the 2 piece rear seal. Problem is, no starter is working for some reason. Anyone have any suggestions? The guy who is helping me out said that I'm going to need an adjustable starter in order to get it to hit the flexplate. There HAS to be a mini starter that would fit. If anyone knows of any or has done this swap could wriet back i'd appreciate it. thanks

If your block is made for a big flywheel (Staggered starter bolt holes) you will need to drill and tap the other hole for the straight mount starter to use the smaller 153 flywheel.
If it's already a straight mount starter there's a whole bunch of mini-starters out there or you can order a starter for a 95 camaro and get a factory type gear reduction starter.
