Swapping 305's... How hard can this be - Please help a new kid out!
Hey everybody,
I currently have two TA's (86 and 88). Both with LB9/700R4. The block in the 88 is siezed but since the 88 is in much better shape then the 86 I am planning to swap in the working 86 motor.
My question is how hard is it to do this? Mainly to hook everything back up the way its supposed to be, especailly the hundreds of hoses for the smog equipment.
Also do I need to take off the intake/runners/plenum or can I jsut pull the block with all of it on? How about the distributor?
If anybody has diagrams of a fully assembled 305 TPI motor I would really love to see them.
Thanks,
-Max

Should be simple enough...
You'll need to use the intake base that goes with whichever heads you use.
You'll have to pull the distributor. You can probably leave everything else on the motor, and put it back together outside the car too.
It's a great time to swap the cam. The 88 should have a roller setup, while the 86 was flat. I'd suggest a Comp 262HR. It should work with all your stock stuff.

Label all the hoses and wires, and take some pictures. When you can't figure out where something goes, all you have to do is look at the pics. Put all the bolts in bags and label them too. Being organized makes motor swaps go so much smoother. Good Luck!
