2.8 to 305 tpi - HELP!!

I NEED SOME REALLY GOOD ADVISE. I'M CHANGING A 2.8 OVER TO A 305 TPI. I FOUND A 1986 305, TPI FOR $300 SO I BOUGHT IT AND AM PLANNING ON REBUILDING IT. NOW I NEED TO KNOW:

1. CAN I USE MY 2.8 SERPINTINE BRACKETS AND ACCESSORIES, DISTRIBUTOR, OR ECM (WITHOUT THE PROM) ON IT?

2. CAN I USE CORVETTE ALUMINUM HEADS, IF SO FROM WHAT YEARS?

3. BESIDES THE ROLLER CAM WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 1987 305 AND THE 1986?

4. FOR A MOSTLY STREET DRIVEN PERFORMANCE CAM I WAS THINKING A ROLLER CAM WITH 214/222 DURATION @.50, .488/.509 LIFT WITH 112 DEGREE LOBE SEP, ANY THOUGHTS?

5. CAN I GET A PROM BURNED FOR THIS CAM SO I CAN DRIVE THE CAR IN THE STREET AND ANOTHER PROM SO THAT I CAN HAVE IT SMOGGED EVERY 2 YEARS (IN CALIFORNIA)?

6. IF SO, WHO DOES THIS TYPE OF THING AND FOR HOW MUCH?

7. WILL ENGINE COMPRESSION EFFECT SMOGABILITY TOO?

8. SHOULD I GIVE THIS WHOLE IDEA UP AND BY A HONDA?

9. WILL I LOOSE ALL, OR PART OF MY HAIR BEFORE THIS MESS IS OVER?

ANY INFORMATION WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

You didn't say what year your current car is, but I hope you got the entire '86 car for that money and not just the engine.

1. No, no, no and no. The PS pump and AC compressor may work with different bracketry.
2. Yes, but they don't have exhaust cross-over passages, so your EGR won't work unless you get a Vette-style intake or somehow plumb exhaust up to the intake. Consider World Products 305 S/R Torquers instead.
3. '87-up have center-bolt valve covers, and the center two intake manifold bolts on each side are at a different angle than the rest. The Vette heads use the '86-ealier intake bolt style, WP 305's are available either way.
4. Sounds okay, but the '86 block doesn't accept the factory roller lifters or cam thrust plate. You're probably better off sticking with a flat tappet cam for a flat tappet block in a street-driven car.
5. Fellow here has a much more radical engine smogged (with a real dyno test, no sissy sniffer up the tail pipe), uses a custom PROM.
6. Check the PROM board.
7. Yes, but see #5 - he's running about 11.5:1.
8. If you didn't get the entire V8 car, then: CBR, maybe. Accord Type R, no way.
9. Most likely, especially if you didn't get the entire V8 car.
