Help With L69
Help With L69
I have an 84 Z-28 with the L69 305HO. What I'm wondering is what can I do to this car to get more HP? Is it reasonable to think I can get at least 275hp? Or should I just spend the money on a 350 and build that instead? Next is the T700-R4 hefty enough to handle 275 to 300 hp? Is the 84 Z-28 hefty enough to handle it? I heard thaat the Third gen where only sturdy enough to handle a little over 250HP... Back to the motor question.. What do I do with all the emissions crap that wont have a hole to go in if I change say the intake (or carb or headers)to an aftermarket model?? I think I can answer just about all my questions but I'm not completly sure about this since I fix airplanes not cars.... so all the help I get would be much appreciated.. Thank you

Headers w/high-flow cat & cat back, cam, heads, intake; in that order. 275 flywheel HP easy. Do it all at once if you like. The combo I'm putting together in my sig desktops at over 320, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's a little optimistic. Your block wouldn't take a roller cam without retrofit roller lifters, though.
The engine bottom-end can handle it if it's in decent shape. The tranny should have a Transgo shift kit (not B&M) put in, or a later tranny built up - the Transmission forum can provide more details there. Subframe connectors and poly suspension bushings are always a good idea.
All of the upgrade parts are available emissions-compatible.
Go ahead and use the avgas, but stay away from that crappy piston engine oil the FAA makes you use and change all the time.
