When is a forged crank necessary?

I will be getting more than likely a 383 and super ram. Will be using a LT4 hot cam (1500-6000 RPM range). So lets say I use a rev limiter for 6000-6500 rpm.....should I get a forged crank to be on the safe side? Or can I get away with a regular cast crank? I will probably eventually use a small shot of nitrous to top it off (100hp).

Spending the 600$ on a forged crank on an engine like that is a nessacity. Plus this allows you to internally balance the engine. I have you and I do not regret the move. A cast crank is only good to about 400 hp. The forged one should be good to around 650. This is with regular 4340 steel that most aftermarket street cranks use. If you can go ahead and drop 3000$ on a Crower that will take basically infinate abuse then do that.
