Swapping in another engine? 350?

My car (supposedly) has 145k miles on it, and the engine still seems to be running strong...however you can never be too careful with these things. If I ever had to get another engine, what engines could I swap in? (I talked to a guy with an 82 Z-28 who swapped in a 350 from an 84 Corvette...claimed the car ran a 13.1 et)
How much would other engines go for? (used, new/crate, junkyard)

I just turned over 142k on mine. I'm hedging my bet by running sythetic oil in it to keep it from wearing out any more than it has. I changed intake valve stem seals and intake gaskets, oil consumption dropped dramatically. High-mileage SBC's can last a frustratingly long time when you're looking for an excuse to put in something more powerful.

I seriously doubt that "guy" put that '84 Vette 350 in stock and just started clicking off 13.1's - he did a lot more to it before that started happening.

As for what you could put in it, any '87-later style used, new/crate, or junkyard engine could be swapped in. You could create your own with a World Products Merlin 434 CID short block, put on AFR heads and a healthy cam, Bigmouth or Miniram, headers and good exhaust all the way back, connect the subframes and get some gears, do all the standard tricks (injectors, AFPR, chip, tranny beef-up, etc.) and be in the 12's.

Price would be around a grand to reside in the 14's, several thousand to get into the 12's.

I would have some doubt about a guy who's making 13.1 with a stock 84 corvette engine. he had to modify something to ran that fast .

LT1 POWERED
HEADMANS HEADERS
NEARLY 300 HP.

next mods:
crane roller rockers 1.6
lt4 hotcam kit
airfoil
58MM edelbrock trottle body
new paint (wet look blue)
17' rims with 275 zr 40 and 245 zr40

Don't think that 305 has had all of its miles yet, mine has 197,509 as of today and burns about a pint of oil between oil changes. It just needs valve seals. I am currently building a $2000 383. It has an Eagle stroker kit, roller cam, ported and polished heads, and roller rockers. If you can do the work yourself you can save about $2000.

I beleive an 1984 Vette came with a 305. I'm not sure of the induction type, but it was the first year w/the C4 body.
